إذا رأى الحالم أن الطوفان أدى إلى خراب المدينة التي يعيش بها أشار هذا إلى احتمالية تعرض البلاد لوباء شديد وستخسر خلاله عدد كبير من الأرواح بالإضافة إلى الخسائر المادية الفادحة، وقد يمثل علامة على انتشار الفتن والتفرقة بين الشعوب مما ينتج عنه تعرض أعداد كبيرة منهم للظلم والقهر.

يؤكد ابن سيرين على الإشارات السيئة التي يرمز لها ذلك المنام، فإذا رآى الحالم أن مياه الفيضان ذات لون أسود فتمثل علامة مذمومة على كثرة المعاصي والذنوب التي يرتكبها الناس، ويعبر الطوفان عن غضب الله تعالى عليهم مما يترتب عليه المهالك وانتشار الأمراض والأوبئة.
أما في حال شاهد الرائي أمواج التسونامي في الحلم فيعتبر هذا مؤشر على التعرض للظلم والقهر وعدم القدرة على التصدي له لأنه غالبا نابع من السلطة الفاسدة، وقد يشير إلى فساد الرائي نفسه في حال كان يتولى مناصب حساسة تمس حقوق الناس ومتطلباتهم.
ولكن أشار ابن سيرين وغيره من الفقهاء إلى أن النجاة من الفيضان بمثابة علامة مبشرة على الخروج من الأزمات والكروب والقدرة على مواجهة الصعاب والعراقيل، مما يجعل للفرد نظرة مستقبلية أفضل.

يفسر فيضان البحر بالنسبة للعزباء على وجود الكثير من الأفكار السلبية التي تعتقد إنها الأفضل وتسير بها في الطريق الخاطئ المليء بالعراقيل والمشاكل، كما يرتبط تأويل الرؤية تبعا لمعدل ارتفاع الأمواج، فإذا كانت متوسطة ولم ينتج عنها أذى أو دمار لبيتها كانت من الرؤى المحمودة التي تومئ إلى الرزق الوفير والحياة الهانئة المرفهة.

في حال رؤيتها لطوفان شديد امتد إلى منزلها واستطاع تدميره وفقدانها لأحد من أفراد أسرتها، دل ذلك على نشوب المشاجرات والخلافات الشديدة بين أهل البيت وغالبا ما سيتسبب ذلك في نشر الفتنة بينهم وفراقهم لفترة طويلة.
عن العزباء إذا رأت نفسها تنجو من الفيضان ولم يلحق الضرر بها أو بأسرتها فدلالة المنام هي تعدد الخيرات والسعادة التي ستعم حياتها، كما أن المنام يحمل رسالة له بضرورة الابتعاد عن الأمور السيئة التي تعلم مدى خطورتها عليها ولكن لديها إصرار على الاستمرار بها، وذلك حتى تتجنب التعرض للإزعاجات والهموم.
